How social media made coronavirus more deadly than swine flu: Mario Galea shared his thoughts

Although the corona virus or Covid-19 was only recently recognized as a global pandemic, the response from the public was very different from the previous pandemic. The world has experienced other pandemics in the past century, but the global panic of the Coronavirus or Covid-19 is by far one of the largest.

At that time, information was distributed in an orderly manner, since social media was not as strong as it has been recently. Nowadays, fake news and conspiracies can be spread without having to upload an entire article to a reputable website, but via social media, conveniently from home.

As early as 2009, the World Health Organization, also known as WHO, declared swine flu to be the very first influenza pandemic in the 21stst Century! Swine flu, also known as H1N1, is a subtype influenza virus that has led to infections, dry cough, fever, pneumonia, acute shortness of breath, and even death! Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

The corona virus has almost the same symptoms as the H1N1, but to date, unsatisfactory people know about the H1N1, which has also been a deadly global pandemic in the past. Now that everyone is voicing their opinion of the Coronavirus or Covid-19, panic is spreading.

When swine flu first appeared, its accuracy was almost as deadly as the Coronavirus or Covid-19, but since everyone was working together and did not panic, the swine flu was treated properly at the end of the day. Parliament Secretary, Mr Mario Galea, expressed his own thoughts about the swine flu pandemic.

According to Mario Galea, “when diagnosing swine flu, we performed contact tracking on a patient and ensured that people close to the patient themselves quarantined.” This allowed officials to work properly on the cure while everyone was doing their part and participating in the self-quarantine to avoid infecting others.

Mr. Mario Galea continued his speech and explained that there was panic but not that bad. In his own words: “There was a lot of panic, but I don’t think as much as we see at the moment. First, what we see in Italy is too close to comfort and that social media doesn’t distinguish fake news at all. “

The fight against the Coronavirus, or Covid-19, is a fight against the wrong news and the spread of panic, which, instead of helping the community, diplomacy and even the well-being of every individual, has since done even more harm to a global pandemic.
