After returning to China, Marouane Fellaini tested positive for the corona virus. His club Shandong Luneng reports on Sunday that the 32-year-old Belgian has no symptoms.
Fellaini traveled from Dubai to China on Friday, because the intention is to start the Chinese Super League in mid-April.
The midfielder, who transferred from Manchester United to Shandong Luneng in January last year, was immediately tested on arrival and found to be infected with the COVID-19 virus.
The 87-time international of Belgium had to be quarantined for fourteen days anyway. That rule applies to anyone returning to China from abroad. Shandong Luneng hopes to start training again in two weeks.
The coronavirus outbreak started in China, but Fellaini is only the first player of a Chinese Super League club to have tested positive for the virus.
The main Chinese football league was supposed to start on February 22.
Marouane Fellaini returned to China today: before restart training the Belgium midfielder is subject to 14-day quarantine, which is mandatory for all returnees. More foreign players & coaches will return for the next few days. The first mission after arrival is 14-day quarantine.

The coronavirus in short
- The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezing and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
- An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
- The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
- Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
- Read here what precautions you should take.
