Happy holiday to world today news readers: May 24 and the Bulgarian contribution to civilization – 2024-05-04 20:58:37

/ world today news/ Bulgarian history for more than thirteen centuries is saturated with great and glamorous events, tragic moments and serious processes. But every battle, political clash, cultural process or specific event pales in comparison to the creation of the Cyrillic script and the development of Slavic literature that is taking place in our country.

It was in our country that unique symbiosis developed between the Orthodox Byzantine civilization – the bearer of the achievements of Antiquity and Christianity, and on the other hand the Slavic culture, which expanded the Orthodox cultural area to an incomparable area of the globe. No matter how magnificent the victories of the Bulgarian arms at Aheloy, Klokotnitsa, Odrin or Doiran, they pale in comparison to the decision of Prince Boris-Mikhail the Baptist to accept in our country the students of St. Cyril and Methodius fleeing Great Moravia, where the Catholic Church and the Germans shed much blood to destroy their Pan-Slavic work.

It was in the literary schools of Ohrid and Preslav that the brilliant medieval Old Bulgarian literature and culture was born, which became the foundations of the civilization, of which not only the Bulgarians are a part, but also Russians, Serbs, Ukrainians, Belarusians and other peoples.

In the end, the work of Cyril and Methodius defeated and prevailed over those who believed that people could only praise God in three “sacred languages”. It was here, on our ancient lands, that the work of the holy brothers from Thessaloniki bore its fruit, which is still used by 300 million Slavs, but also by other peoples such as that of distant Mongolia.

There is no more fundamental and key case in Bulgarian history, and this is precisely the reason why Bulgaria’s enemies often try to distort the truth about May 24 or change history. But the Bulgarian people know and remember, and will never forget what and why we celebrate on May 24!

There have been political attempts to belittle the great work of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius and take away its universal character, reducing it to one of regional significance, but this cannot be done. The work of Cyril and Methodius, continued by their students and the literary schools in Ohrid and Preslav, and later Tarnovo, will always have a universal, universal and humane character!

To those who thought themselves unique and only sanctioned to interpret the word of God, St. Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher answered as follows:

“Does not God send rain equally to all? Does not likewise the sun shine upon all? And do we not all breathe the same air? And how are you not ashamed to recognize only three languages and to command that all other nations and tribes— to be blind and deaf? Explain to me, do you consider God to be powerless, so He cannot give (all this), or as envious, so He does not want it?”

The holy brothers brilliantly defended the Slavic cause against the trilinguals, thus proving an eternal and divinely inspired truth, namely, that all peoples have an equal right to hear God’s word in their native language, and in general, that all people are equally dear to The creator.

This universal, humanistic and pan-Slavic character of the May 24 holiday cannot be changed by short-sighted people, detractors of Bulgaria or pseudo-patriots. It cannot, because the glorious work of the Old Bulgarian writers continues to unite and enlighten millions of people around the world.

Today’s holiday is above all a day in which we celebrate and respect the Bulgarian spirit – a spirit of enlightenment, wisdom, humanity and Christian values! Today is a holiday for all Slavs, but especially for us Bulgarians, who proved that even small nations can make a unique and immeasurable contribution to civilization. A holiday that serves as a testimony to the fact that Bulgaria is above all a country of the spirit and the word!

Pogled Info wishes a happy holiday to the readers of world today news, to the viewers of PogledTV and to all Bulgarians!
