“Housing, Climate, and Health: May Day Protest Draws Attention to People Before Profit in Salzburg”

Under the motto “Housing, climate and health – people before profits”, the morning of the 1st May a demonstration from Südtiroler Platz at Salzburg’s main train station via Ignaz-Harrer-Strasse to Neue Mitte Lehen. About 300 people took part, as S24 learned from the police. The protest was peaceful.

Over 30 organizations behind May Day demo

The KPÖ also wants to draw attention to the issue of climate change with the protest. Because: “Fossil corporations are destroying the climate and endangering the livelihoods of our children,” criticizes Dankl. In addition, the public health system is slipping further and further into the crisis, while nursing staff would burn out.

In addition to the KPÖ, more than thirty Salzburg organizations are behind the protest. Among them are the ÖH Salzburg, the Chamber of Labor Salzburg, Fridays for Future, the GPA, the Green Youth, the Young Left, Solidarity Salzburg, KSV, Earth Burns, the action of critical students and the VSStÖ Salzburg.

Second demo starts at Salzburg main station

Also at the Salzburg main train station, but at the rear exit on Lastenstraße, a second protest march with around 30 participants started its march at 11 a.m. Under the motto “Never work again”, the anarchists’ demo led across Paracelsus Straße to the Kongresshaus and, according to the police, also went without any special incidents.
