House Fire in Marmorneset, Bergen: 15 People Evacuated, No Injuries Reported

15 people were evacuated when a house caught fire in the residential area Marmorneset in the south of Bergen on Friday evening.

Emergency services were notified of the fire at 9:30 p.m.

The house was already engulfed in flames when the fire brigade started extinguishing work at 9.40pm.

No one should be injured as a result of the fire.

Just after 10 p.m., the fire service reported that they had it under control. There was also no longer a risk of spreading to neighboring houses.

At 22.30 they report that the evacuees from the neighboring house can return home.

Work to prevent spreading

Marmorneset is located in the south of Bergen, not far from Edvard Grieg’s former residence, Trollhaugen.

The area is a residential area with several houses standing close together.

Emergency managers at the site say they chose to evacuate the neighboring house because there was a significant risk of espionage.

– There are two houses that are close together. Both have been evacuated, says incident leader Ivar Kvant in the West police district.

The police do not know anything about the cause of the fire.

The fire service has mainly worked to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses, says Kvant.

Operations leader Ivar Kvant says the evacuees from the neighboring house can move back as early as Friday evening.

Heard a loud bang

A resident in the area tells NRK that he heard loud bangs from the house when it started to burn.

Kvant says the situation was unclear when the fire and police first arrived.

– There were many people wandering around here and I had little overview, but I quickly got control of the people living in the houses, says Kvant.

No one should have inhaled smoke or been injured in any other way, he says.
