The strong winds don’t seem to subside for a while. This is infielder Hotaka Yamakawa, who transferred to the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. He exercised his domestic free agent rights from the Saitama Seibu Lions this off-season and chose to play in a new field.

On December 25th, SoftBank submitted to Seibu a protection list for “personnel compensation” associated with the acquisition of Yamakawa. Yamakawa’s transfer to Softbank was somehow completed in accordance with the rules, but the public reaction was greater than expected, and there are overwhelming voices of concern about his future fate.

Regardless of Seibu’s parent’s feelings

Although he has a wife and children, it was discovered in May that he had been having an affair with a woman he knew in her 20s, and that he was having trouble. The criminal case for which she was referred to prosecutors on suspicion of forced sexual intercourse was dismissed in August. Although he was suspended indefinitely by the Seibu side from participating in official games, he responded to interviews for the first time since the trouble was discovered on October 5, just before participating in the autumn educational league, which is treated as an unofficial game, and publicly apologized.

Initially, some people speculated that he might not exercise the domestic free agent rights he had acquired under special circumstances and instead remain at Seibu and undergo “rehabilitation.” However, when we opened the lid, Yamakawa exercised his free agent rights. Even so, Seibu’s “parental feelings”, which had expressed an attitude that “it’s OK to stay even if I exercise my free agent rights,” were ultimately ignored and he transferred to Softbank.
