Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of Russia Vladimir Putin give a warning. He even emphasized that Russia is ready to take military steps to the West.
This war warning, Russia claims, is the result of the “unfriendly” attitude of the US and its NATO allies. This happened because of the bloc’s support for Ukraine, which is at odds with Russia.
“If the West continues its aggressive stance, it is clear that Russia will take military technical steps, appropriate retaliation,” he wrote AFP quoted Putin’s statement to a defense ministry official, Tuesday (21/12/2021).
“Russia will react strongly to hostile steps … we have the right to do so,” he stressed again proclaimed the same page.
Putin’s statement was also issued following news that the US had placed Tomahawk cruise missiles in Poland and Romania. The missile can reach Moscow in just minutes.
The US is also said to have provided more than US$2.5 billion to Ukraine to fight Russia. Previously, the West accused Moscow of gathering 100,000 troops near its border with eastern Ukraine to support pro-Russian separatists, which Kiev is fighting.
Despite threatening an escalation of the conflict, Putin insists he wants to avoid bloodshed. “We want to solve the problem by political and diplomatic means,” he said.
Putin said the same thing earlier in a phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He asked Europe to conduct serious negotiations with Russia.
Ukraine and the West say Moscow has long been involved in the Ukraine conflict. Russia is sending troops and weapons to support the separatists in a battle that has claimed more than 13,000 lives.
Russia denies the claims and says Kiev has deployed half of its troops to the eastern conflict zone. Kiev’s forces have modernized and acquired attack drones from NATO member Turkey, which has further infuriated Russia since last October.
