In Australia, a former childcare worker has been accused of sexually abusing 91 children.
Police called it one of the most horrific cases of child sexual abuse in the country.
The 45-year-old man has been charged with 1,623 separate crimes, including 136 cases of rape and 110 cases of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of ten, the police revealed.
Investigators arrested the suspect after discovering child pornography on the dark web, which was traced to a childcare center in Brisbane. However, it was only after examining the contents of the suspect’s phone and computer that investigators realized the severity of his crimes. More than 4,000 images and videos of child pornography were found on the man’s electronic devices.
The police discovered that the crimes were committed in ten different childcare centers between 2007 and 2022, with pre-pubescent girls being the victims. Some of the victims were as young as a year old.
Although 87 of the 91 victims were from Australia, police believe a further four unidentified children were abused while the man was temporarily working overseas between 2013 and 2014. Police revealed they are working with international crime-fighting agencies to find the children.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Michael Fitzgerald said it was one of the worst cases he had ever seen. “What this person did to these children is beyond imagination. All I can say is that after being in the police force for a long time you try not to be shocked, but this is a horrific case,” Fitzgerald admitted.
Police discovered the man had passed the rigorous checks required to work in childcare centers in Australia.
