“HIV Cases Increase Among Indonesian Housewives: Ministry of Health Report”

JawaPos.com – The Ministry of Health reports cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Indonesia have increased this year. Most HIV sufferers themselves are housewives.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health dr. Muhammad Syahril said that cases of housewives infected with HIV increased by up to 5,100 people each year, an increase of up to 35 percent.

According to him, this figure is higher than HIV cases in other groups, such as husbands of sex workers and MSM groups.man sex with man). “This activity has contributed to around 30 percent of transmission from husband to wife,” said Syahril, Thursday (11/5).

He explained that the reason for the high transmission of HIV among housewives was due to knowledge of prevention and the low impact of the disease on survivors. In addition, the average housewife who is infected with HIV is also suspected of having a partner with risky sexual behavior.

Furthermore, Syahril admitted that until now it was quite difficult to detect HIV in pregnant women. The reason is that there are still many husbands who do not allow their wives to be tested for HIV.

“The Ministry of Health noted that only 55 percent of pregnant women were tested for HIV because most did not get their husband’s permission to be tested,” he explained.

Of these, he said that 7,153 HIV positive mothers and 76 percent had not received ARV treatment.
