he Spezia rose to the first division of Italian football for the first time in its history, after beating Frosinone in the playoffs for a place in Serie A.
That club, now trained by former Italian international Alessandro Nesta, won 1-0 this Thursday in the second leg of the playoff at Spezia Calcio, but needed a victory by two goals to come back.
In the first leg, last Sunday, Spezia had won by the same result (1-0) in Frosinone. Spezia achieved promotion thanks to their better position at the end of the regular season in Italian Serie B (3rd against 8th).
Spezia therefore accompanies the two clubs that had already achieved their promotion to Serie A 2020-2021, Benevento and Crotone, the first two from the last Serie B.
Those three teams will take the places of the three descendants, Lecce, Brescia and SPAL de Ferrara.
The new season of Serie A is due to begin on September 19.
