Unemployment in Tyrol doubled, +41 percent in Vienna
The Corona crisis affects the labor markets in the federal states significantly differently: While the number of unemployed and training participants at the end of April in compared to the previous month Tyrol to almost 47,000 more than doubled (+108 percent), the numbers rose in Vienna by 41 percent to over 197,000.
In Salzburg there were 31,501 people without a job (+82.7 percent) and in the Styria there were 69,644 (+77.1 percent). The rise fell lower in Carinthia (+65 percent), Upper Austria (+64.8 percent), Burgenland (+61.8 percent), Vorarlberg (+57.8 percent) and Lower Austria (+53.8 percent). The unemployment training of the AMS have been exposed to the coronavirus pandemic since mid-March and will gradually resume in mid-May.
To Age groups The smallest increase in unemployment in Austria was among young people in April: At People under the age of 25 there was an increase of 45.7 percent to 83,784 people in the 25 to 49 year olds an increase of 65.9 percent to 332,775 and for 50 year olds and older people an increase of 50.3 percent to 154,918 people affected.
Women and men are equally strong on the labor market Corona crisis affected. At Women unemployment rose by 56.8 percent to 272,351 Men by 59.5 percent to 299,126. For nationals, the unemployment somewhat less (+53.7 percent) than for foreign workers (+67 percent).
