In a video, the father of the police officer on the run since January 28, asks his son to “surrender without delay”. His companion, aged 28, was found dead in her apartment in the 19th arrondissement of Paris.
“Arnaud, if you see me if you hear me, if you see this message, I ask you to go without delay to the nearest police station or gendarmerie“, declares the father of Arnaud B. in a video broadcast by BFMTV.
The 29-year-old peacekeeper has been wanted since January 28, the day of the discovery in his apartment in the 19th arrondissement of Paris of the body of his companion, aged 28 and who died by strangulation, according to the autopsy.
The body had been discovered in the bathroom by Parisian police officers who came to the suspect’s home, assigned to the Blanc-Mesnil police station (Seine-Saint-Denis).
“I ask the people who were able to help you in this useless escape, to come forward as soon as possible.“, continues the father of the fugitive who adds: “Do it for Amanda, for her parents, her family, we need to know”.
He also explains that he met his son’s partner on several occasions: “a ray of sunshine, always smiling, adorable”, in his words. Referring to his son, he speaks of a man who can be “a bit possessive”who “has never been angry”.
On February 10, the policeman made a bank withdrawal of 1,500 euros in Breteuil, in Oise, a town located about a hundred kilometers from the capital. The same day, a call for witnesses was launched by the Paris police headquarters.
Two days later, the car mentioned on the search notice was recognized by a local resident “in the Burger King car park in Amiens-Sud”, according to a source familiar with the matter. His service weapon was also found.
Arnaud B. is known for acts of domestic violence. He had been placed in police custody in October 2019 for violence against his partner at the time and had received an alternative to prosecution, an awareness course on domestic violence.
Administratively, he had been sanctioned with a simple warning, the lowest disciplinary sanction in the public service, not recorded in the agent’s file.
A judicial investigation was opened on February 1 on the count of “intentional homicide on a spouse, cohabitant or partner”, indicated the Paris prosecutor’s office.
At the same time, the prefect of police Didier Lallement seized the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) to investigate possible shortcomings concerning the authorization to carry a weapon granted to the police officer. According to France Info, the police officer was prohibited from keeping his weapon outside his workplace.
