High uric acid levels are a risk for kidney stones : Okezone Lifestyle

DISEASE Kidney stones aka nephrolithiasis that are not treated will be a health problem for men and women at the age of 30 to 60 years. Risk factors kidney stones influenced by lifestyle and type of food.

Urology Specialist from Siloam Hospitals Makassar, Dr. dr Syarif Sp.U (K) said health problems and the various dangers of kidney stones that are not treated allow for a decrease in kidney function, making it difficult to regulate blood pressure and fluid regulation in the body.

According to Doctor Syarif, many types of food available around Indonesia contain ‘purines’, namely food substances as the initial cause of gout complaints.

“High uric acid levels will be a risk for stones in the urinary tract,” said Doctor Syarif.

Kidney stone disorders can occur in the kidneys, namely the upper or lower tract and the bladder. Symptoms of kidney stones begin with low back pain with severe pain accompanied by complications such as bloody urine, gritty or stone discharge.

Early detection or early examination of complaints of kidney stones can be done through CT scan urography. “Through CT scan urography, the results of the examination to detect kidney stones in the urinary tract can be known immediately.

Kidney stones form from waste in the blood that forms crystals and accumulates in the kidneys. Examples of chemicals that can form kidney stones are calcium and oxalic acid. Over time, the material gets harder and resembles rock. Kidney stones can be cured through drugs or with medical surgery.

“Healing can be done with medicine, but if it doesn’t work, ESWL or PCNL will be carried out.

ESWL is extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, or known as shock waves that will destroy kidney stones under 2 cm in size and will come out through the urinary tract,” said Doctor Syarif.

While PCNL or percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a technique of removing kidney stones through small incisions around the waist which is very helpful for removing kidney stones that are more than 2 centimeters in size.
