Hertha BSC on Klinsmann billing: “Disgusting and insolent”

After the “Sport Bild” published a supposedly 22-page protocol of Klinsmanns about his time at Hertha BSC, in which the coach settled accounts with the entire club, now club president Gegenbauer comments.

Hertha President Werner Gegenbauer has reacted to Jürgen Klinsmann’s protocol published by “Sport Bild” about his time at the capital club. In the allegedly 22-page letter, Klinsmann, who was appointed to the supervisory board of the capital club and was appointed head coach shortly afterwards, accuses the club and its individual departments of incompetence and recommends investor Lars Windhorst, among other things, the immediate dismissal of the entire sports leadership team.

Gegenbauer now wrote to the club members in which he tried to classify Klinsmann’s statements. The Hertha boss makes it unmistakably clear that “neither the content of the letter nor the manner of proceeding” is understandable for the club. Gegenbauer sees Klinsmann’s attempt in the document to “justify his resignation with absurd claims.” He does not want to go into specific allegations because they are “either wrong or just nonsensical”.

Gegenbauer: “Regret that we were so wrong in Klinsmann”

However, it was important for the 69-year-old official to note that the “shabby allegations” against Hertha’s medical department and media staff were “firmly” rejected.

“We regret that we apparently were so wrong about him,” Gegenbauer concludes, “because we would like to have written a positive story for Hertha BSC together with Jürgen Klinsmann.”

“Disgusting and insolent”

A few hours after Gegenbauer, Hertha manager Preetz, who was particularly criticized by Klinsmann, spoke up. He said the allegations were “disgusting and outrageous”. In addition, it is “perfidious” and “is strongly rejected. These are all people who work 24 hours a day for this association”. (You can see the full statement above in the video.)

“It is indeed the case that these days you can get the impression that we at Hertha BSC are not really coming to rest in this important sporting phase of this season,” added Preetz.

The allegations were noted in the club with great dismay. “In principle, nobody was excluded from his criticism.” Preetz, who was particularly heavily criticized in the paper, assured: “I can take it, I’m stable.”
