What a recognition of their struggle to achieve more and better political spaces for women, beginning with their right to vote and be voted since 1953, this Monday the government of Lerdo crystallized what was proposed and endorsed by the council so that from today the Theater bears the name of Hermila Galindo, the woman, the writer, speaker and politician born in the Hacienda de San Juan de Avilés now Ciudad Juárez in Lerdo.
Promoter of the right to vote for women and to be the first woman candidate for District 5 in the then Federal District, whose fame now became more relevant to appear on the new 100 peso bills together with Francisco I. Madero and Carmen Serdán, was born in 1886 and died in 1954 at the age of 88, which represents a pride for this Duranguense municipality.
This morning in an emotional ceremony held in the lobby of the former cinema and after its demolition it was erected in a theater called Centauro, the change of name to Hermila Galindo was made official at the proposal of the councilor of the Citizen Movement Shamir Rivera González, in her capacity President of the Art and Culture Commission.
The event was led by municipal president Homero Martínez Cabrera, who was accompanied by Professor Fernando Galindo Flores, a great-nephew of politics. In addition, there were the secretary of the city council José Dimás López and the councilmen Jospe Padilla and Angel Francisco Luna, as well as by the head of Art and Culture, José Guadalupe Flores, but also by Luis Rivera, the president of the Governing Board of Villa Juárez .

However, and despite the logistics seasoned by the enthusiasm of seeing the new name of the theater, there were several attempts by one and the other to do so promptly, since the cherry-colored curtain with golden highlights got stuck in one of the letters and this prevented the pull from being pulled due to the risk that it would chip or one of the letters would fall. Faced with the small incident, a theater worker from above and with a log unbolted the cloth and after 1 minute and 4 seconds they finally managed to reveal the lyrics of this post-revolutionary fighter.

Fernando Galindo Flores, Great-nephew of Hermila Galindo, who came on behalf of the family to be present at this tribute, said that it is a great emotion to realize what is being done to recognize the name and career of the writer, speaker and journalist in favor of women.
“We know that she was inspired by great European thinkers to seek equal rights and now that in Mexico and the municipality of Lerdo they are giving her that enhancement, she fills us with emotion,” he said.
He thanked Mayor Homero Martínez Cabrera, for giving this name to the City Theater and with it immortalize the name of Hermila Galindo, great pride for the descendants and for the municipality of Lerdo.
