The cause of death is still unknown. Autopsy should clarify that. The police assume murder. Rouwenhorst was found in Shanzu, a suburb of Mombasa. According to Kenyan media, the police found the Apeldoorner after an emergency call from his girlfriend.
She was allegedly kidnapped by the killer(s) in a car and left with her hands tied to the wheel near the Serena Beach Hotel, not far from the apartment complex. Somehow, possibly with the help of third parties, the woman would have managed to call the police.
