On the program: a Full HD + screen (2330 x 1080 pixels) of 5.45 inches with zero side border thanks to a 120 degree curvature on the sides. Due to this, the physical buttons have been removed and replaced with a haptic sensor. This is reminiscent of what part of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. In addition, this famous slab does not suffer from any notch or punch, because the front 16 megapixel photo sensor went to hide below, invisible to the eyes of potential users.

The manufacturer explains that it used a specially designed pixel arrangement to allow light to enter the sensor effectively. Added to this is “a series of algorithm optimizations improving the quality of photography“.
Promising Gimbal and Continuous Optical Zoom
Speaking of the camera, it should be noted that the rear module is made up of two sensors, each with an intriguing specificity. The main 48-megapixel sensor promises stabilization quality worthy of gimbals thanks to a mechanical structure which imitates its properties. Vivo prides itself as well as its Apex 2020 offers better performance than the OIS systems traditionally used on smartphones by notably adding a new axis of stabilization from front to back.
To put it very simply: more axes of stabilization logically offer … better stabilization. To the point where Vivo claims that this allows the Apex 2020 to have better photo performance in low light, because it can allow a longer exposure time to capture more light without suffering from a blurred image.
The other rear photo sensor has a definition of 16 megapixels and allows a continuous optical zoom from x5 to x 7.5. In other words, the transition from one level of magnification to another is not done through a digital process as is usually the case, but through a set of moving lenses. Vivo indicates that it has used a total of four lenses: two fixed and two mobile to achieve a zoom quality far superior to what is done today. At least, that’s what is promised on paper.

It must be admitted that these promises are most enticing. We note in passing an interesting fact: the photo module of the Vivo Apex 2020, despite the on-board technologies, is 6.2 mm thick.
Fast wireless charging
Finally, the Vivo Apex 2020 is entitled to compatibility with a powerful wireless load of 60 W. The manufacturer does not reveal the capacity of the concept phone’s battery and is content to explain that its wireless charge can fill a 2000 mAh battery in 20 minutes.
For the rest of the characteristics, we retain the following things:
- Snapdragon 865
- 12 GB RAM
- 256 GB storage
- Android 10
- Weight: 169 grams
- Dimensions: 157.25 x 66.2 x 8.8 mm
“The future of the smartphone”
Note that we are talking about a concept phone. This product, although presented publicly today, is not intended to be sold, but rather showcases the most enticing innovations on which Vivo works. Many of these innovations are expected to be available on marketable smartphones by the end of the year. We are thinking in particular of the next Vivo NEX.
This Vivo Apex 2020 should therefore be considered as “a futuristic vision beyond imaginationWrites the brand. A fairly classic and vague mercantile discourse which finds a little more meaning in another declaration. “With APEX 2020, Vivo demonstrates its ability to imagine the future of the smartphone», We read indeed in the press release.
Waiting to see Vivo arrive in France, we can already see that the brand is keen to display his taste for innovation.
