Despite an overall drop in the number of coronavirus cases in Belgium, the epidemic continues to spread in certain municipalities.

The number of new coronavirus cases averaged 507.9 per day over the period August 13-19, a 15% decline from the week before, according to data updated Sunday morning by Sciensano. Belgium now has 81,468 Covid-19 contaminations. These figures were respectively 509.4 and 80,894 in the balance sheet of Saturday morning. This is the seventh day in a row that the average of new cases has declined.
Reverse trend in Brussels
However, the number of contaminations continues to increase in the Brussels region. Between August 13 and 19, 898 cases were detected there, 76 more than the previous seven days (+ 9%).
The virus is also gaining ground in the provinces of Flemish Brabant (+57 new cases, or + 26%) and Hainaut (+23 cases, or + 9%). On the other hand, he loses in the province of Antwerp, where 794 infections were confirmed in one week, or 416 less than the previous week (-34%). The epidemic is also slowing down in Liège, with 297 cases recorded (-163), and in Luxembourg, which has 47 cases (-24).
In total, 81,468 cases of contamination have been detected in Belgium since the start of the epidemic. You can find, in the map and / or the table below, the number of cases reported in your town yesterday, since the start of phase 3 of deconfinement (June 8) and since the start of the epidemic.
In addition, despite an overall drop in the number of cases, the number of Covid-19 cases continues to climb in many municipalities. And in some of them, the famous “alarm threshold” (20 new contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants in one week) has even been reached or exceeded. Be careful therefore that this “alarm threshold” should be put into perspective in certain municipalities, the smallest of them can indeed quickly exceed it with a single case.
This Sunday, 203 municipalities reached or exceeded the “alarm threshold” according to the latest consolidated data from Sciensano. Check in the map below if your municipality is part of it (the “Cumulative Incidence” will therefore be greater than or equal to 20).
