Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been named Hollywood’s highest paid actor for the second year in a row, topping a list of comedians who have enjoyed hefty contracts with Netflix.
The former professional wrestler pocketed 87.5 million in the year ending June 2020, according to Forbes’ annual ranking.
This amount (slightly lower than last year – 89.4 million) is partly due to what The Rock (23.5 million) received for the Netflix action film “Red Notice” .
The streaming giant is behind no less than a quarter of the fees collected by this year’s Top 10.
Among the stars who have benefited from Netflix’s largesse to leading actors ($ 140 million in all) are Top 10 runner-up Ryan Reynolds (“Six Underground” and “Red Notice”), number 3 on the Mark Wahlberg (“Spenser Confidential”) and fourth in the Top 10, Ben Affleck (“The Last Thing He Wanted”).
“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda made his debut after Disney paid $ 75 million to secure the rights to the Broadway production, which was again in the spotlight recently when it aired on Disney last month.
Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar and martial arts legend Jackie Chan have returned to the Top 10, as have Will Smith and Adam Sandler.
Absent this year, the actors of the Marvel films “Avengers”, who had dominated the ranking last year.
But Vin Diesel, mainstay of the “Fast & Furious” franchise, is number 5 with 54 million.
This ranking does not include actresses, who will be on a separate roster next month.
