Hérault: a dog found disfigured by a touching shot from a hunting rifle

This 7-year-old Labrador boxer cross was entrusted to the SPA Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole who filed a complaint against X for act of cruelty to an animal. Sensitive souls refrain, the following photos may shock!

“But who dared to do that? The photos are unbearable,” protested Annie Benezech, director of SPA Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, reached by phone. A question that remains unanswered for the moment.

This Tuesday, May 25, a stray dog, 7 years old, Labrador boxer cross, was indeed found, the mouth all bloody, by the firefighters while he was lying on the side of a road in the town de Valmascle, between Bédarieux and Clermont-l’Hérault. Taken urgently to the Languedocia veterinary clinic in Montpellier, he underwent a major surgical operation.

One wound and several fractures

According to the operative assessment of Doctor Emilien Griffeuille, he presented “a severe decaying wound of the upper right lip as well as fractures of the hard palate, of the jawbone to the nasal cavities, of the premolars and of the jawbone”. It appeared on the x-ray “the presence of very many pellets at the level of the head of the animal compatible with a rifle shot with a touching end”.

“Alerted by the veterinary clinic, its owner explained that financially he could not ensure the cost of the operation so we recovered it”, explains Annie Benezech who decided to file a complaint against X, at the central police station in Montpellier, for an act of cruelty to an animal. The procedure must be sent to the gendarmerie so that an investigation can be carried out.

He had to undergo a second operation

This Wednesday, June 2, this dog unfortunately had to undergo a new operation, “the sutures of the right lips and those of the palate in particular having failed”, indicates doctor Joachim Lopes de Lima of the Saint-Hubert veterinary clinic who ensured the follow-up postoperative. For a few days, he will therefore remain hospitalized “for monitoring and cleaning of wounds, pain management and antibiotic therapy”.
