Both Otten and Derksen were guests at WNL on NPO Radio 1 on Saturday. Otten said that he had “spoken extensively” with the much-discussed football commentator. Otten is a co-founder of Forum for Democracy, Thierry Baudet’s party. He was even the treasurer of that party until he got into a row with Baudet and was eventually disbarred. Otten was then already in the Senate and he held on to his seat.
Otten has now joined forces with Henk Krol, the former figurehead of 50PLUS. Krol has in turn started a party with MP Femke Merel van Kooten-Arissen, who left the Party for the Animals last year. This new party is called the Party for the Future (PvdT).
Weak for ‘die Otten’
Derksen admits to wanting to be part of ‘that club’, ‘because of my age and the views,’ said the commentator. “I have a soft spot for Otten, because he was treated in a particularly unholy way by Baudet,” adds Derksen.
“I don’t want to rush straight into politics. I think I have already caused unrest enough in this country, ”he says, referring to his role in the Dutch racism debate. However, he does want to consider whether he will be on the PvdT list. “Then I immediately go for the House of Representatives and even the Prime Minister,” Derksen even joked. “I don’t think Mark Rutte will close an eye!”
