Helmut Marko: “Max Verstappen is scared”

(Motorsport-Total.com) – When Formula 1 starts again in Spielberg at the beginning of July, it is confident that the COVID-19 topic will be under control. Nevertheless, some drivers are likely to be a bit skeptical in the field – such as Max Verstappen. Because the Dutchman is pretty “scared”, as Red Bull Motorsport consultant Helmut Marko reveals to ‘RTL’.

Helmut Marko knows that Max Verstappen doesn’t want to take any chances zoom

“We had planned a few events, but if the security measures weren’t really optimal, he canceled them,” says the Austrian. After all, Verstappen didn’t want to catch the corona virus – and Marko absolutely understands that: “He wants to be the youngest world champion and avoids any risk.”

Marko does not believe that there may be problems with the drivers regarding Corona. Most of them – like Verstappen – live in Monaco, where security measures were very strict. “You were only allowed to leave the house for a few hours. So they come here well insulated and prepared,” the Red Bull man is convinced.

What drivers in Spielberg will miss is driving experience. Although many kept fit in the virtual races, driving in a real race car is something completely different. Some expect the races in Spielberg to be a bit more chaotic than usual – including Marko.

“When it gets hot, and that is quite possible in July, it may be that the condition is not there and therefore the concentration is not there,” he says. “But of course this is an additional tension factor for the viewer.”
