Five students from Tec campus Mexico City pooled their talents to create the learning platform, Hello Teacher.
Luis Flores, Karen Díaz, Alejandro Soriano, José Carlos and Sofía Sosa, who have received an academic scholarship or Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship, explained that they looked for a way to benefit society through education.
“The project in general was born out of concern for us as students. And we gave ourselves to the task of investigate many problems that there were between us in general.
“In my case, I could never study English before entering Tec, and that worried me too much because right now I’m looking for job and academic opportunities”, Alejandro explained.
Given this, they developed a platform that connects youth and adults with teachers for an online learning.
“We began to develop this project, we saw that there was a great need for society to have better learning, and that’s how we created Hello Teacher, which is a platform that connects students with teachers directly.
“We realized that it is a much bigger problem because in Mexico six out of ten students do not have basic reading or math skills and only 5 percent of Mexicans can speak English ”, added.
Within the platform, groups of less than 25 students are organized and each course has a cost of 2,200 pesos.
“Last quarter we gave the five English courses and we had more than 17 students in less than a month, and we realized that we could have students from all over, “said Luis.
Next goal: increase community
For Sofia, Hello Teacher has the objective of increasing the community, both of students and teachers.
“This is just beginning and we know that it will grow much more to reach other sectors: we would like to train companies.
“We know that we can and that they are looking for us and that people see us there, that’s what we want. That is why we seek support, because we want the project to reach more people in order to benefit many students”, he expressed.
Finally, Karen explained that they seek bridging the educational gap via Hello Teacher.
“This platform seemed like an excellent opportunity to bring the courses to more people, and that gap is broken “, ended.
