Hellas Rüsselsheim cannot afford to make any mistakes

The Rüsselsheimers go into the relegation battle final of the district football league with the best starting position. But the SG Dornheim is lurking and is confident.

RÜSSELSHEIM – The championship has long been decided, the title went to RW Walldorf II. But at the bottom of the table in the football district Oberliga Darmstadt/Groß-Gerau, a trio is still fighting for relegation on the last day of this Saturday (3:30 p.m.): Hellas Rüsselsheim, SG Dornheim and KSG Brandau.

The Rüsselsheimers have the best starting position, with 33 points currently occupying a non-relegation rank. But FV Hellas cannot afford to slip up. Because the SG Dornheim (32) lurks on the relegation rank. Especially since the Greeks meet Master Walldorf. “Nothing is impossible,” says Hellas trainer Hüseyin Top. He hopes that Spiridon Pentsidis, Patrick Stanczak and Ioannis Safis are available again. “We won’t give up,” announced Top. If his team wins, everything is clear. Likewise, if Dornheim does not score three times. The Rüsselsheimers have to go into the relegation if they don’t win, the Dornheimers in turn are successful at the Olympia Biebesheim – then the SG would have been safe in the league.

The team around SG trainer Dirk Schätzler has to cope with a difficult task with Biebesheim. For the hosts it is the last game under the coaching duo Steffen Gils / Robert Schmidt, which goes to the group league FC Alsbach. “That doesn’t make things any easier,” says Schätzler. Due to the strong performance in the 3-0 win at RW Darmstadt II on the last match day, he is confident: “We have to win the game.” If there is a three, he expects to remain in the league because he cannot imagine that champion Walldorf in Ruesselsheim is subject. If the SG had appeared more often in the second half of the season like last Sunday, the Dornheimers would not have to worry about such constellations. A point would at least mean the relegation.

SC OPEL IMPROVES AFTER BREAK

Although SV Traisa dominated the catch-up game in the football district Oberliga Darmstadt/Groß-Gerau at Opel Rüsselsheim for long periods, the hosts prevailed 2-1 (0-1). “Traisa had more possession, we were lucky to win,” admitted Rüsselsheim coach Reinhold Wurmlinger. In the first 45 minutes it was Opel goalkeeper Florian Langhans who kept his team in the game – he saved a penalty from Jonathan Seiter (24′). In the second 45 minutes, SC Opel improved and was still successful thanks to Cenk Celikkol (50th) and Cenk Cicek (89th). “The team won with great commitment and great morale,” said Wurmlinger, who was very satisfied. In the event of a defeat, the SG is even threatened with relegation – provided Brandau (currently 29 points) wins against Germania Eberstadt. Then Dornheim and KSG would be tied, but Brandauer won the direct comparison and would have at least saved themselves in the relegation. The FV Hellas, in turn, would be secured in this scenario, no matter how their own game ends.
