Heart Attack Survivors Recall Near-Death Experiences: Shocking Study Findings

Jakarta

The survivors heart attack reveals what it’s like to experience death, in a study published recently. What they said was surprising

Researchers at NYU Grossman School of Medicine found that some people who survive heart attacks have awareness, alertness, and cognitive experiences when the heart stops beating. These patients have vivid memories of death, up to 1 hour after their hearts stopped.

The study assessed 567 people who had heart attacks between May 2018 and March 2020 in the United States and England. As many as 4 out of 10 patients who survived remembered the cognitive experience during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

“I remember being in a big field with gray tents scattered everywhere,” one participant was quoted as telling researchers detikINET from Newsweek.

“There were faceless figures. I remember walking through the canyon. On both sides of the canyon, there were men in white robes with hoods that hid their faces. The last thing I remember was them all pointing at me. Then the world was swallowed by gray ,” he explained.

“I remember seeing my father,” said another participant, about their experience.

“I heard my name over and over again. All around me, there were demons and monsters. It felt like they were trying to rip my body apart. Wherever I was, I could see someone. There was no face, but it was a man. He was shouting my name and grabbing “before it was too late. I reached out and felt someone pulling me towards him,” said another story.

A heart attack occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping. Sufferers will faint due to a sudden lack of blood flow. They will die if not treated immediately.

“While doctors long thought the brain was permanently damaged about 10 minutes after the heart stops supplying oxygen, our research finds the brain can show signs of recovery long after CPR has occurred,” said senior study author Sam Parnia, MD, PhD.

“This is the first large study to show memory and brain wave changes may be universal signs, shared elements of so-called near-death experiences,” he added.
