Health, Police | The family is in despair: Elin Sofie (28) and Tone (61) found dead on Boxing Day

(Kragerø Blad Vestmar): KV publishes their name and photo in consultation with the family, which includes Tone’s closest relatives and Elin’s father Sofie.

– Tone and Elin Sofie were just kind and good. They have always defended us in the family. I feel like broken glass inside.

That’s what Magnus says. He is the nephew of Tone and cousin of Elin Sofie.

It tells of great pain. They are a relatively small family that have been very close to each other over the years.

Now there will always be two missing pieces around the table during family gatherings.

Ambulance visit just before Christmas

In mid-December, Tone and Elin Sofie are said to have fallen ill. They had just decorated the apartment for Christmas.

After they had been in poor condition for several days, a family member chose to call an ambulance on their behalf on Wednesday 21 December.

Elin Sofie was in constant conversation with this family member, who in turn kept updating Magnus.

An ambulance came to see us. Magnus says medical personnel were present with them for just over an hour.

None of them were taken to hospital.

– The ambulance staff suspected that he was infected with covid-19. They were asked to contact their primary care physician’s office. They did so, but were then told not to show up as long as there was a suspicion of corona infection, says Magnus.

A short time later, in the few days preceding Boxing Day, both lost their lives.

– It shouldn’t be possible in 2022

Police Station Chief Øystein Skottmyr at Kragerø Police Station informed KV on Monday afternoon that preliminary autopsy reports indicate that the women died of an illness.

Magnus tells KV that reports mention pneumonia as a possible cause.

– I don’t understand how this is possible in 2022. It shouldn’t be possible. The reason I choose to tell this is that I hope it never happens to anyone else again.

– They were sick and asked for help, but were rejected. Then they died in their own home. Now they no longer exist. It is completely incomprehensible to me.

Magnus and his family question the health care staff’s assessment. A clear misjudgment, he believes.

Ambulance manager: – Good assessments have been made

Ambulance director Knut Inge Brekka Skoland from Telemark Hospital confirms to KV that the ambulance visited the women on Wednesday 21 December.

His next of kin relieved him of the duty of confidentiality.

He initially points out that the ambulance was only called to examine the older woman and that there is no recorded suspicion of a corona infection in their documents.

– We had experienced healthcare personnel on site and accurate and accurate measurements of the patient were taken. It’s true we’ve been there for a while. After consulting with her doctor, we advised her to contact her general practitioner, explains Brekka Skoland.

– There was no immediate feedback that day that the patient needed to be transported directly to the hospital. She was encouraged to call 911 if his health deteriorated, but we were never heard from again.

Deal with the incident internally

The ambulance director says he and his colleagues have great compassion for the family.

– It is regrettable that the next of kin find our behavior objectionable.

– We will look into the incident internally to see if we could have done something differently.

  • Although the two deceased women lived in Kragerø municipality, they had a doctor at a medical practice in another municipality. The municipal superintendent of the municipality concerned informs KV that the matter needs to be looked into further before making any comments.
