Health pass: threats to elected officials are increasing and worrying the government

In the context of the expansion of the health pass, threats targeting elected officials and parliamentarians are increasing. A danger taken very seriously by the authorities, according to information from CNEWS.

Several deputies have notably expressed threats received after showing their support for the health measures announced by Emmanuel Macron last Monday. Last Wednesday, the LREM deputy of Hérault announced to file a complaint after receiving a death threat against the background of anti-vaccine speech.

“Tell the other deputies to vote well because from now on, it is real bullets that you will take (I am armed), be careful where you go. You will never inject us with the vaccine, ”we could read in a message shared on the parliamentarian’s Twitter account. Other elected officials say they have received the same type of threat.

Richard Ferrand files a complaint

In reaction, the President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand decided Thursday to seize the public prosecutor of Paris, “so that the authors of these antidemocratic acts answer in front of the justice”. “It cannot be tolerated that a representative of the nation may be the subject of attempts at intimidation,” he continued in a statement published on the Twitter account of the National Assembly. The next day, Richard Ferrand’s office was invaded by anti-vaccines.

Threats taken seriously by the government

In a letter sent to the prefects, the director of the national police and the director of the national gendarmerie that the editorial staff of CNEWS obtained, the Minister of the Interior reports that “actions, sometimes violent, were also carried out on the hotlines and against parliamentary assistants ”.

Gérald Darmanin asks the security forces to “reassure elected officials, prevent these acts and react quickly in the event of an event”. He calls in particular for increased surveillance “around the offices of parliamentarians” and their homes.
