Health Minister César Vásquez Sánchez Urges Intensified Covid-19 Vaccination in Peru

The Minister of Health, César Vásquez Sánchez, reported that, given the increase in cases of covid-19 in the country, vaccination against this disease will be intensified in points that concentrate a large number of people, such as the queues that are already forming in different points for

(Fonavi).

After inaugurating a community mental health center in San Juan de Lurigancho, the Health Minister maintained that there are bivalent vaccines in hospitals and health centers and recalled that Immunization against covid-19 prevents serious cases or death.

The vaccine does not prevent the disease but it does prevent major complications or death. There is a bivalent vaccine in all establishments, we should not waste this opportunity. Let’s avoid unnecessary deaths. There are still deaths from covid-19, but those who die, which are few, are those who are in vulnerable groups and have not been vaccinated“he pointed out.

He said that in Peru there are around 4 million people who belong to vulnerable groups, that is, they may be more affected by the disease, and that the Government’s goal was to immunize 3 million (75%). “As of yesterday, we have already passed that goal and we are at 3 million 080 thousand vaccinated, we hope to continue advancing“.

Vásquez Sánchez asked the population not to be overconfident and to immunize older adults or vulnerable people in the family. “We hope to complete the remaining 25% of the vulnerable group in the first quarter of 2024“.

For this reason, he added, we will take advantage of the points of agglomeration of people, such as the lines for Fonavi payments but also the other lines that form for end-of-year payments, so that brigades of nurses will be sent there.
