‘He was a good father’: Latino dies while trying to evade the subway fare in New York

NEW YORK, USA.- A 28-year-old Latino died after breaking his neck while trying to jump the turnstiles of the Queens subway, in New York.

The man was identified as Christopher de la Cruz, the father of a family, according to official sources.

Cruz arrived at the Forest Hills-71st station, last Sunday, January 2, however he did not imagine that he would lose his life there.

According to New York Post, The young man tried to jump at the entrance to avoid paying the value of the trip fee, but he did not succeed. Although he tried several times to get his feet through the metal tubes, he failed and ended up losing his balance. Subsequently, he fell headlong.

Christopher’s neck hit the floor, breaking immediately, causing his feet to turn the other way.

Videos of the accident – disclosed on social networks – show Cruz trying to jump the turnstile after entering the subway station and after staggering with his huge backpack for a few seconds, he decided to change turnstile and evade the passage; until he was finally able to flip the tourniquet without success.

The father of the family crashed on his head, dying almost instantly.

Local media detailed that the victim was found by police, who requested emergency medical attention. However, minutes later he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragic event occurred around 6:45 in the morning. Nothing could be done to save his life.

On the other hand, the police stated that Christopher had been drinking and seemed unsteady when walking.

“What can I say? He made a mistake … He was a good man, he was a good father”, lamented José de la Cruz, father of the now deceased.
