On the cover of 7 on newsstands on Friday 30 July, Gianni Morandi tells Maria Luisa Agnese about his new restart (read here), after the terrible fire accident that sent him to hospital and then cost him a long rehabilitation. He recalled the great psychological help Lorenzo Jovanotti received when, while he was still in the hospital, he sent him the new song written for him. The video of which was then shot in Valentino Rossi’s “ranch”. And he underlined how «L’Allegria» is a hymn to joy, an idea to start over again. But above all he recalled how his most beautiful restart was having met Anna, his wife, who for 7 wrote the intimate and touching testimony you read on this page.

My husband is Gianni Morandi and I have discovered for years that he lives in the future. In 27 years I have never once seen him bask in the past. He is very passionate about dates, numbers, remembers all the kilometers of the motorway but does not particularly like anniversaries, anniversaries. His curiosity and his will to live always push him forward. His gaze on the things of life is always … from afar. The big quarrels with him do not exist, because even the things that heat him up it is as if he were looking at them from a place years away .. Forward. It is as if he were looking from the future and saying to himself “Come on Gianni’s not something to get angry about, just laugh at it!”. It is as if life had brought him a conscious vision that turns things into positive, never negative. And even the unpleasant things that can happen in everyday life, and I still don’t know how he does it, he removes them. After a while, they no longer exist. But this time he took a big hit! This adventure does not forget because the fear was too strong. She could see it mirrored in my face as she persisted in asking me if I had anything in the house for sunburn.

After he slipped into the fire, he phoned me. I thought he was calling me for dinner, but I knew immediately that something serious had happened. The voice … I found him right there, on the doorstep with the mobile phone under his arm because he could not hold it in his hand, with severe pain everywhere. Then at home he leaned against the wall of the fireplace and for the first time I saw him fragile and completely immersed in a totally unexpected present. “Anna, do you have sunburn cream?” It was evident that it was not something to be solved with a cream. But when he does that he is really a big head … And there was no way to dissuade him. “Gianni we have to call the ambulance,” but he, nothing. After a while, I convinced him and the nurses, seeing him, gave him a painkiller drip and took him to Cesena. (read on after the links and the photo)

I couldn’t get in the ambulance with him, in pandemic times everything was – rightly – complex, but one thing is certain: Gianni was leaving for the center for severe burns and I still couldn’t believe it. The following days in the hospital were heavy: in those six rooms in our intensive care unit, access was allowed once a day and there were very serious cases. After a few days, while I was shaving him, we looked around and we realized seeing the other burns that we had gone very well. In those weeks, the hundreds of messages helped him a lot. He wasn’t expecting such a strong wave of affection either and wrote Lorenzo too. I am a huge fan of Jovanotti, in the past I asked Gianni to go to all his concerts because he is the most innovative, most interesting artist and live is just irresistible. It is impossible not to fall in love with Jovanotti, he is unique! A few months before the accident Gianni had asked him for a song, which in those hospital moments was very far from his thoughts, but he was struck by his affection.

Then we went home, Gianni was not convinced of the return, the daily care that awaited us seemed hasty and too demanding. But in my opinion, going home was an important part of the therapy and I insisted. The first days with the bandages, the creams, the palms to put on and take off, the wraps and the various exercises were very tough. Then one day she called Jova, it was June 5th. It was not a happy moment but Lorenzo’s voice immediately had a balsamic effect “Gianni how are you doing, I haven’t forgotten the song eh … I have a beautiful one and if you sing it you will become beautiful!”. And by mail it arrived at our house …. The joy. From there everything changed. From that moment on, a joyful race started because “a kick and start again” was what was needed for Gianni, perhaps also for Lorenzo, but above all it was what was needed for all of us after these terrible months of pandemic and all the rest. The text was perfect, it was written just for this moment and just for him.

I saw him try and try again aloud in the meadow always with that hand immobilized. He wasn’t sure he could interpret it so different from everything he had sung up to now! With bandaged hands he went round and round, and screamed like a madman La La La La La The happiness …. And so I realized that something was changing, that it was returning to its dimension that you must never give up. On 7 June we left home for the first time to go to a place other than the Cesena hospital: in the studio in Milan with Lorenzo to record. With a thousand fears we left and also with a touch of unconsciousness. It was the first time the mind had shifted from injuries, from the hospital and from the medications. And I can say that when we left Pinaxa’s studio, Gianni really had another face! Meeting Lorenzo, who was with his daughter Teresa that day, was another injection of extraordinary positivity. I breathed a sense of real friendship, an exchange of positive energies. And the song was a unique gift.

It moves me to see the images of the two of them again dancing with Teresa, because after so many days I saw that Morandi was back who sees only the beautiful part of things. “Everything good! Lorenzo went very well for me, I might not be here to tell you about it ». Jovanotti has always been close to him. Perhaps they also have some common character traits: they both love positivity, are resistant to complaining. And then Lorenzo had another great idea: “Let’s ask Valentino Rossi if he will host us on his ranch to shoot the videoclip ..”. AND so I found them in front of me and suddenly I saw three generations of men I like. Above all because they are three people who with the all-Italian character are a model for many. Their way of working and their good humor, their enthusiasm and their joy have infected everyone, as it was for those who were on the set of the video. No preaching, no teaching.

There is no theory behind that attitude. It is a way of being, it is how you choose to live your life. Without thinking of teaching anyone anything. That way of being is a great force that inspires and draws us into the better future of us. Today Gianni is better, the battle is not over, but so, a little by chance, I hear him sing The joy and I think about how this song has become important for him, for us and perhaps for all those who love it.
