Hawaii wants to ban all people under the age of 100 from buying cigarettes

A complete ban on cigarettes? Some MPs in the US state of Hawaii dream of this. They want to enforce a sales ban for everyone under 100 by 2024.
“The legislature states that the cigarette is considered the deadliest artifact in human history.” With these words begins the bill for the US state of Hawaii. The archipelago in the Central Pacific has the toughest anti-smoking laws in the United States. But they want even more: The new draft law provides for a complete cigarette ban in the state for all people under 100 years of age. Because: “The legislature also states that smoking killed 100 million people in the 20th century and is expected to kill a billion people in the 21st century.”
No cigarette sales to people under 100
According to this, the age for the permitted purchase of cigarettes in Hawaii is to be raised bit by bit until in 2024 only 100-year-olds are allowed to buy cigarettes. Sales to under 21-year-olds are currently prohibited. The age is to be raised to 30 in the next year, then to 40 in the year after next, and so on. Richard Creagan, a member of parliament, is behind the bill, a doctor in an emergency room, as reported by the American news channel “CNN”. He told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald newspaper, “Basically we have a group of heavily addicts who, in my opinion, are enslaved by a ridiculously bad industry that enslaved them with the invention of a highly addictive cigarette – this one Know that it is absolutely fatal. ”
Tourists can still fly in cigarettes
Since the law would only affect sales within the state, tourists visiting the archipelago could still fly in cigarettes. In addition, the age limit will not apply to e-cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco. The bill for the complete cigarette ban will be debated in parliament for the first time this week.
