Coronavirus: The Swiss follow the rules of the FOPH to the letter – Switzerland

The Swiss take the directives of theFederal Office of Public Health (OFSP) to seriously counter the spread of the coronavirus. More than nine out of ten people say they know and apply preventive measures.

Thus, 92% of the Swiss say they are aware of the Confederation campaign, according to the results of a survey carried out by the Demo Scope and sotomo institutes on behalf of the FOPH. The content of the campaign is better integrated than the campaign itself: 98% of them say that they know the rule of “washing your hands thoroughly”.

Other rules, such as “do not shake hands”, “cough and sneeze in a tissue or in the crook of your elbow”, “keep your distance” or “stay home if you have a fever or cough” are equally well known, with a rate of 95%. The fact that you have to register by phone before going to the emergency room or to the doctor is slightly less followed with a rate of 90%.

The fact that the content of the prevention campaign is better known than the campaign itself clearly shows that the messages are actively disseminated in society, according to the study published Monday.

Message well accepted

Another point of satisfaction for the authorities, the messages are not only known, they are also accepted. Nearly nine in ten say they no longer shake hands and four in five cough in their elbow. Three quarters of people wash their hands thoroughly and 70% respect social distancing.

Hand washing is more respected at work than in public spaces, while behavior is reversed with regard to the rules of distance.

Among the risk groups, people over 65 (90%) understand the message better than those with pre-existing conditions (79%). The latter are more difficult to recognize when they go out and their behavior is less stigmatized in public than that of seniors. They should be made more aware within the framework of prevention campaigns, according to the survey.

Threatening crisis

The majority of respondents believe that the current crisis will worsen and many of them consider it to be very threatening. It remains to be seen how this feeling will develop if the crisis continues.

The Romans and Ticinese are the most worried: they are more numerous to consider that the current situation is threatening than the Alémaniques. The same goes for personal insecurity and fear: the Latin people are more anxious than the German speakers. However, the differences between linguistic regions are blurred in terms of trust and resilience.

Highly rated campaign

In general, the work of the FOPH is well rated. On a scale of 10, he scores 8.9. Nine out of ten respondents believe that the campaign is measured and fair. None claims that it is exaggerated. On the other hand, a small minority of 9% judge the information as ineffective.

The representative survey was carried out online from March 19 to 23 by Demo Scope with 2,079 people. It has been analyzed by sotomo. The margin of error is +/- 2.1 percentage points. (ats / nxp)
