Haslach i. S .: Blood donations are particularly important now – Kinzigtal

But the DRK blood donation service has been looking for plasma donors who have survived Covid 19 disease since spring. The aim is to pass on the antibodies formed due to the disease to acutely ill Covid-19 patients and thus to positively influence the course of the disease. So anyone who has documented a cure from Covid 19 and would like to donate so-called convalescent plasma (Rkp) can find out more on the website www.blutspende.de.

“But despite the current SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus epidemic and the number of infections in Germany, regular patient supply with blood preparations must be ensured,” emphasizes Damaris Kriegs. Some important blood preparations would only have a very short shelf life. Every working day in Germany, at least 15,000 blood donations would have to be obtained in order to guarantee the care of seriously ill patients in the clinics. “Many sick people receive preparations made from donated blood for the rest of their lives,” explains the spokeswoman for the blood donation service.

In the medium term, people with tumor diseases in particular would have to rely on the continuous administration of blood preparations in order to survive the side effects of the therapies. Around a fifth of all blood preparations required are required for cancer patients. “At the moment, the supply of blood preparations is fairly stable,” explains Kriegs, pointing to a possible drastic change with regard to the widespread spread of the coronavirus. That is why the DRK blood donation service appeals to keep the blood donation appointments offered.

A temperature measurement and a controlled request for hand disinfection take place at the entrance. People with flu-like symptoms, cold symptoms or diarrhea, people with a body temperature of more than 37.5 ° C and people who had contact with a corona infected person or were abroad within the 14 days prior to the blood donation are not allowed to donate. In order to be able to control the donor flow effectively and without long waiting times, donors are asked to make an appointment for their blood donation. New donors should also be given an appointment for their first donation at https://terminreservierung.blutspende.de/m/haslach-stadthalle. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 73 can donate blood; first-time donors must not be older than 65 years. You must bring your ID card and blood donation pass.
