At the beginning of this year, Hans and his daughter Angelica watch the videos submitted by the ladies. The eccentric Desiree immediately jumps out. “Angelica and I thought: a little commotion in the house is also nice. But Desiree drew all the attention to herself, and that was not fun at all. That just became annoying,” he says in conversation with The Telegraph.
Desiree doesn’t just make herself unloved with Hans, she also makes the viewers loose – in both a positive and negative sense. The kitchen princess gets a lot of criticism and Hans thinks that is ‘completely justified’. “He paid no attention to me at all. He wanted to be known over my back on TV, I assume. I don’t know.” And that while Desiree mentions several times in the program that she thinks Hans is such a nice man and that she does like it.

Hans also says that he actually wanted to approach his participation differently. He is not familiar with the program when approached to join. The casting agency sends him a few videos from the previous season. Also from Jacob who runs a B&B in Portugal. Hans sees it all go wrong under the Portuguese sun and according to Hans that is mainly because the four women arrive at the same time. “It’s a pity that women had to live together, I had already seen that with Jacob in Portugal. (…) Then they start a competition to see who appears the best.”
According to Hans it would be better if the ladies arrive spread out. A guest comes, then one more, then a moment of choice, one home and then the next. Unfortunately for him, the bomb explodes immediately between Hayriye and Desiree and that makes the atmosphere in his lodging not too good.
