hanging on a cliff following an accident, a paraglider rescued in extremis by the PGHM

Spectacular rescue near Grenoble. An Isère paraglider was suspended from a tree above the void. A very technical intervention for the teams of the high mountain gendarmerie platoon of Isère who managed to bring it back to land safe and sound.

A void of nearly six hundred meters underfoot and life that hangs only on a few threads … those of the lines of his sail. A 36-year-old paraglider came close to the worst this Sunday near Grenoble. “It was held only by small branches hanging from its lines”, confide the rescuers of the PGHM.

The young woman made a piloting error which led her into the trees of the cliff of Mont Saint-Eynard. His paraglider got stuck in a tree, above the void. “She was lucky”, comments a rescuer from the PGHM of Isère, “She was really on her feet. After that, it’s the big jump …”

The accident occurred on the intermediate ledge of Saint-Eynard, a landing in the cliff, making access difficult for the teams of the high mountain gendarmerie platoon. The paraglider was on an outing with friends, so it was they who sounded the alarm.

“A very technical rescue”

It took an hour for the PGHM pair, who came down to meet her, to succeed in securing the young woman using ropes and to bring her down from the tree, onto the ledge. A rescue “interesting” car “very technical” according to the rescuers. “It is for this kind of rescue that we train”, one of them tells us.

The paraglider was then hoisted back onto the winch area, away from the crash area, to allow the helicopter to perform the maneuvers safely.

She comes out with a great fright but was not injured. “A story with a happy ending that could have turned into a drama”, conclude the high mountain gendarmes.
