For the handball players at LC Brühl, the Supercup is not a success story. The women of St. Gallen have already qualified six times to compare the champions with the cup winners. But only in 2017 – after a 35:31 against LK Zug – and 2019 (29:28 against Nottwil) did they win the comparison of the two best teams of the past season.

From this perspective, the Brühl team are not the favorites today from 16 in Winterthur against the double winner LK Zug. But the Supercup is not just a success story for the women of Central Switzerland either. In three participations, only one victory was achieved against Rotweiss Thun with 35:21 in 2015.

The St.Gallen top scorer is not operational

The fact that the Supercup is held at the beginning of each season may reduce the sporting importance. For the teams involved, however, it is valuable. «This is an important first assessment of the situation in a serious battle. It can be determined where the performance opportunities are for the coming months, ”says Brühl’s goalkeeper Sladana Dokovic. The 26-year-old, who has played for LC Brühl for 18 years and has been part of the Fanion team for ten years, does not see her team in Winterthur as a favorite. Dokovic continues:

“Despite the departure of the director and top scorer Charlotte Kähr to the Bundesliga in Buxtehude, Zug is still the well-rehearsed team against which we narrowly lost three times in the playoff final in May.”

In terms of well-rehearsed, the St.Gallen women can certainly not keep up with their opponents. “Six departures had to be replaced, and another upheaval in the team took place,” says Brühl’s President Alexander Zehntner. In addition, there are currently numerous injured and therefore unfit players, such as the 18-year-old top scorer Malin Altherr, who has had a nose operation.

Brühl’s opponent has filled his right wing position with the Romanian Andreea Taivan. In 2014, the 24-year-old was part of the team that won the U17 World Championship. She was part of the U20 selection and has so far received three bids for the A national team. Taivan came from the highest Romanian league, which is one of the strongest in Europe, to the Swiss double winner.
