A suspicious object was found at the Israeli embassy in Sweden on Wednesday. According to various local media, it is a hand grenade. The object has been destroyed, the Swedish police report.

Embassy employees raised the alarm on Wednesday afternoon because of a suspicious object. According to Swedish The evening paper it concerns a hand grenade, which was thrown over a fence at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm.

The Swedish bomb squad destroyed the object, a police spokesperson told the broadcaster TV4. A bang could have been heard. The explosive was said to have been thrown over a fence on the grounds near the building. It may have been a protest against the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip. For the time being, the police only want to confirm that it was a “dangerous object”.

Israeli Ambassador to Sweden Ziv Nevo Kulman says attempts have been made to attack the embassy and its staff. “We thank the Swedish authorities for their quick response. We will not give in to terror,” he wrote on X.

The Swedish police have started an investigation.
