The police security guard at Hamburg Central Station has been closed for months. Initially, only “construction works” were alleged as the reason for the closure which lasted months. The cause, however, was the explosion of a water pipe in the toilets, in which the feces “flooded” the entire building area, as has only now been known.
The Hachmannplatz security guard is used jointly by the state police, the federal police and the railway security service, but has been closed since the beginning of June. In a press release, Hamburg police said in June that the station “is closed until further notice due to construction work.”

In response from the Senate to a request from the CDU, the motivation for the works was also given: “The leaked faeces had flooded the entire building area and, consequently, damaged the interiors, mobile systems and fixed parts of the building ( floor and walls) in some cases considerably, “it reads there. The bursting of the water pipe was so bad that the reception desk and floor covering even swelled. According to a spokesman for the railways, the building was supposed to be completely refurbished.
The cost is unknown
DB Security employees are already using the rooms again. A new floor will be laid in the area for the federal and state police next week. There is no cost information. The security guard at the main train station acts as a quick and easy point of contact for travelers whose wallet has been stolen, for example.
