The good news first. The USA also seem to have passed the zenith of the corona cases. The numbers have been falling steadily since the high on January 12th. In the meantime, vaccinations are carried out on the running meter in the USA, with around 1.5 million pricks per day.

The bad news: The Covid-19 lung disease has killed around half a million people in the United States. That is a higher casualty rate than the number of people America lost on the battlefield in its last five great wars combined.

More corona deaths than US combat victims
In the Second World War the Americans lost 291,000 people, in the Korean War 33,739 and Vietnam 47,434. Iraq and Afghanistan claimed another 4,424 and 2,400 dead, respectively. That corresponds to around 379,000 US combat casualties on America’s battlefields.

The latest corona case numbers vary depending on the source. The reference values of the Johns Hopkins University currently speak of around 499,000 deaths. According to other sources, the 500,000 mark has already been exceeded. The news portal TMZ, for example, speaks of 502,000 deaths, the global statistics page «Worldometer» of more than 511,000 fatalities in the United States.
