Hailstorm in Verona (I): “The cars are under water. I have never seen that”

The Veneto region was hit by a severe thunderstorm on Sunday evening. The image of a man trying to walk down the street with water up to his chest is particularly striking.

A violent thunderstorm hit Sunday at the end of the day in the Veneto region (north-eastern Italy), especially in Verona, some streets of which were suddenly flooded by a flood of rain and hail.

The firefighters, who carried out 200 rescue operations, had to intervene in many neighboring municipalities, including Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, producer of the famous wine. The storm also moved east over the cities of Vicenza and Padua, in the same region near Venice.

Videos posted on social media show particularly impressive footage in Verona, including that of a man attempting to walk down a street with water up to his chest, visibly surprised by the speed of the storm. The woman behind the camera can’t hide her amazement: “The cars are under water. I’ve never seen that. ”

Hundreds of trees have collapsed in this area which shows significant material damage but no casualties, according to the police.
