March 29, 2024, 3:57 a.m. ET
Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, are calling it quits less than three months after she was released from prison.
The Announcement
Blanchard, 32, shared the news of the split on her private Facebook account on Thursday. She revealed that she has moved back in with her parents after the separation.
“People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents [sic] home down the bayou,” she wrote.
Blanchard expressed that she has the support of her family and friends during this challenging time, and she is focused on finding herself.
A Complex Relationship
Anderson, 37, and Blanchard started seeing each other in 2020 while Blanchard was serving her prison sentence for second-degree murder, from which she was released on December 28, 2023.
They first connected through letter writing and the relationship blossomed. The pair got married in a jailhouse ceremony at Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center in July 2022.
Blanchard had expressed excitement about married life and was looking forward to having a proper wedding ceremony with family and friends now that she was out of prison.
Navigating the Challenges
Blanchard had expressed some concerns about the future of their relationship, speaking about how she had never lived with a man before. She highlighted the importance of good conflict resolution, with her preference of clearing up arguments in the moment in contrast to Anderson’s tendency to think things through before resolving conflicts.
Despite their challenges, the pair had seemed ready to take on the next chapter of their lives. Unfortunately, the difficulties proved insurmountable and they decided to separate.
A Troubled Past
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s childhood was marked by the disturbing actions of her mother, Clauddine “DeeDee” Blanchard. DeeDee forced Blanchard to pretend she had various illnesses and to use a wheelchair for over 20 years. These events were chronicled in the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest” and the Hulu series “The Act.”
Blanchard’s mother suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental disorder where parents invent illnesses for their children in order to gain attention.
Blanchard’s story has captivated the public, and after being released from prison, she had garnered a significant following on social media. However, she recently decided to delete her public Instagram account to avoid potential trouble and to maintain her compliance with the conditions of her parole.
A New Beginning
As Gypsy Rose Blanchard starts this new chapter of her life, she remains grateful for the support she has from her family and friends. She is determined to discover her true self.
