Guimarães deputy elected by PSD assumes alcoholism problems

Congressman Pedro Rodrigues, a native of Guimarães, assumed this Thursday, through social media, that he had “an alcoholism problem”, in order to avoid “unacceptable personal attacks” that, he says, have been the target.

Pedro Rodrigues, against some of the current party, was the first subscriber to an initiative by a group of PSD deputies who asked for a popular consultation (referendum) on euthanasia, instead of being approved only by deputies.

Elected by the Lisbon constituency, where he has lived for the past few years, the 40-year-old lawyer and former leader of the national JSD reveals that, given the problem he is targeting, there are those who “consider” that he is not able to defend “A political position of principle”, regarding the bills on decriminalizing euthanasia, approved this Thursday in the Assembly of the Republic.

“Yes, I have a problem with alcoholism. It is a topic that only concerns my intimacy and my family. I have lived this topic with the strong support of my wife and family. I decided today to assume it because in addition to the personal suffering in which I am immersed, I have suffered unacceptable personal attacks ”, he wrote.

“The idea that I cannot assume a political position in principle, because someone considers that I am not capable, is something that I deeply disgust. I will not be in the Assembly of the Republic today as I should have. I apologize to those who believe in me. But I can’t do it … I will always be with mine … But I will never stop fighting uncompromisingly for what I believe in … “, he says.

Pedro Rodrigues has a degree and a doctoral degree in Law, performing duties as a lawyer. He had already been elected deputy to the Assembly of the Republic in the XI legislature (2009) by the Braga constituency.
