The “Do you understand fun?” Moderator Guido Cantz leaves the show, which put celebrities in and made a huge audience laugh.
Cologne – after twelve years Guido Cantz* Farewell to “Do you understand fun?” On the show, he regularly targeted celebs, like recently also Victoria Swarovski * or Luca Haenni*. Shortly before Christmas, he will moderate the pranks with the hidden camera for the last time in the first. The dpa reports.

“Do you understand fun?” Was a project close to his heart, Cantz assures the German Press Agency. “But precisely because things are going well, I believe that now is the right time to stop.”
The 49-year-old took over the well-known entertainment show from entertainer Frank Elstner in 2010. Kurt Felix was the very first to be seen as a gag presenter who brought the show onto German television in 1980. In between you saw different faces on “Do you understand fun?” Lead through the show, including Harald Schmidt and Dieter Hallervorden.
Guido Cantz: “I would never have thought that I would do this for so long”
“Many people said to me at the time:“ How can you do that – such a TV classic and then the big shoes by Frank Elstner? ”He remembers. “But it was clear to me: Of course I’ll try it!” When he staged his first broadcast in Halle an der Saale in early 2010, his wife was heavily pregnant: the son is now ten years old. “I never thought that I would do this for so long.”
Guido Cantz: “Do you understand fun?” Should become more interesting for families and children
His aim was to make the format more interesting again for families with children. “That worked really well. We had an audience rate of 19 percent in the last show among 20 to 29 year olds, which is really gigantic. I also notice that because young people approach me for a selfie and then say: “I grew up with you.” Then I also involuntarily think: I’m a pretty old bastard, but I still feel that old not at all.”

Many of the highlights will remain unforgettable for him: World star Joe Cocker, for example, who came on the show and consistently addressed him as “Guido”, as if they had known each other for ages. And then of course the decoy missions, for which he often had to wear the mask for hours until he was no longer recognizable. He annoyed the Münster “Tatort” commissioners Axel Prahl and Jan Josef Liefers once as an unusually lively corpse on the dissection table. The two actors took everything with stoic humor.
Guido Cantz: “Do something else” at 50
And now the final line after all? Two events have puzzled Cantz: On the one hand, he will be 50 years old on August 19th. On the other hand, during the corona pandemic, for the first time in many years, he had time to relax – because his countless carnival appearances and his tour suddenly canceled. “So I thought to myself: You have to do something else in your life.” He doesn’t yet know what that will be. “I would now like to finish with a lot of joy and say goodbye to“ Do you understand fun? ”. And then I’ll think twice: where do I want to go? “
Guido Cantz: Four more times “Do you understand fun?”
Südwestrundfunk (SWR) wants to continue the show in 2022 with a new presenter and develop the broadcast concept further. Until then, Guido Cantz will host four more times: on July 17th, August 21st, October 9th and December 18th. Shortly before Christmas it should get extra emotional: “But I don’t want to think about that yet!”

Guido Cantz also said goodbye to his fans and followers on Instagram – personally via video message. “IT were twelve sensational, successful years that I had a lot of fun,” said Cantz. “All other information” and probably also what new challenges the moderator will now tackle, he would like to share on his social networks.
