Guardiola is sorry that Sané is going to Bayern: ‘He wanted to leave’ | NOW

Josep Guardiola confirmed on Wednesday that Leroy Sané is about to swap Manchester City for Bayern Munich. The Spanish manager is sorry that the German attacker is leaving.

“It’s not quite finished yet, there are still some little things that need to be sorted out, but it looks like Leroy is going to Munich,” said Guardiola at his press conference for Thursday’s game with Liverpool.

According to various media, Bayern will pay 49 million euros to buy off the 24-year-old Sané’s one-year-long contract. The transfer is expected to be completed quickly.

“We wish him all the best in a fantastic club,” said Guardiola. “He wanted to leave. I would have loved to keep him here, but he believes he can get better elsewhere and be happier. Everyone has their own life.”

Sané moved from Schalke 04 to Manchester City for 52 million euros four years ago. The fast winger, who is only just fit again after a serious knee injury, stands for 135 official matches, 39 goals and 45 assists for City.

Guardiola: ‘Admire Klopp as a person’

Sané will still be in the selection of Manchester City on Thursday for the Premier League game with Liverpool. It is the first game for ‘The Reds’ since they secured the league title for the first time in thirty years.

Guardiola expressed his admiration for Liverpool colleague Jürgen Klopp on Wednesday. “The football that Jürgen lets his teams play is very good for the sport,” said the Catalan.

“We don’t talk to each other very often, but he is my colleague and after my career I hope to have a good relationship with all managers. I admire Jürgen as a person.”

Klopp also had praise for Guardiola at his own press conference. “We usually have no contact during the season, but Pep is a great guy, I have a lot of respect for him. He always wants to win, but also accepts if he has lost.”
