Guaidó calls for demonstrations against Maduro for three straight days

Venezuelan opposition chief Juan Guaidó yesterday called on the people to speak tomorrow, Friday and Saturday against Nicolás Maduro, a few hours after taking an oath as president of parliament for a second one-year term.

“The time has come for us to get up and get up hard,” Guaidó said during a press conference. “We will be mobilizing for street activities on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday we will all be on the street,” he added, saying he also intended to return to the National Assembly in Caracas next Tuesday. .

The opposition majority in the Venezuelan parliament resumed investing Guaidó as interim president of Venezuela yesterday during a rather bumpy plenary session marked by the forcible entry into the National Assembly of opposition deputies.

The decision reiterates the challenge launched by opposition forces against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who has ruled since 2013 and is being challenged by a large part of the international community to step aside from power and call “free elections”.

The proposal for Juan Guaidó to take the oath again as Venezuelan interim leader came from Deputy Carlos Berrizbeitia and was supported by more than 100 opposing parliamentarians.

“On behalf of those who have no voice today, mothers who mourn their children from a distance (…), on behalf of Venezuela, I swear to fulfill the duties of President-in-Office and seek a solution to the crisis and to decent living conditions. ”Said Guaidó, with his right hand placed on the Venezuelan Constitution.

Despite strong military police provisions near the National Assembly building, Guaidó yesterday managed to forcibly enter Venezuelan parliament facilities after being prevented on Sunday.

Once inside the parliament, Juan Guaidó went up to the Assembly table and sang the national anthem.

The Venezuelan parliament had envisaged the election of its new leadership on Sunday, which would result in the reelection of Guaido, Maduro’s main opponent, but the deputy was detained for hours by police and beaten at the door of the National Assembly.

At the same time, inside, in plenary, the deputies supporting the Venezuelan head of state elected Luis Parra, who also had the support of a minority of opposition parliamentarians suspected of corruption.

That same day, and after being prevented by security forces from entering the National Assembly building, Guaidó, who proclaimed himself Venezuelan interim president in January 2019 and was recognized by more than 50 countries, was re-elected president of parliament on the premises. from the newspaper El Nacional.

Venezuela, which has about 32 million inhabitants and a significant community of Portuguese and Portuguese descendants, faces a climate of great political instability, which is added to a serious economic and social crisis.
