Gruesome video reveals dire conditions at French farm for foie gras | (none)

Ducks in a state of decomposition, flooding of droppings, proliferation of rats and worms: the video released by the organization for the defense of animals L214 highlights the totally unsanitary conditions of a hatchery in Lichos, in the Atlantic Pyrenees (south-western France).

Specifically, it is a duck farm to make the foie gras, food that consists of the deformation of the liver of this animal and that can be transformed, for example, into pate.

One of the constructions that houses male ducks reveals about 150 web-footed animals enclosed in cages mixed with carcasses of other birds.

The photos and videos posted online on the association’s website were taken “a few days ago” in August, after a whistleblower raised the alarm.

The Ministry of Agriculture, which became aware of the video, indicated Wednesday night that it was asking for a “formal warning” to the farm, a measure that could go “up to a suspension of the activity.

“At the same time, legal proceedings have been started “said the ministry in a statement, although it considers that this “isolated” case “cannot be generalized.”

On Wednesday, L214’s attorney also filed a complaint for “cruelty to animals,” “abandonment,” and “Damage to the environment” due to the risks incurred by a nearby watercourse, due to the excrement of the building.

L214 is an association for the protection of animals hostile to livestock and the consumption of all products of animal origin.

In addition, it is campaigning for the closure of slaughterhouses and had already denounced the farms in the sector of the foie gras, symbol of French gastronomy.
