Grosshöchstetten – The Rössli is galloping again

It is a village original that everyone has known, sometimes since childhood: the automatic Rössli in front of the old barn next to the Löwen restaurant in the Grosshöchstetter village center. It was always there, but recently it was gone for a while. During the spa vacation, so to speak, because it was broken. Three “doctors” freshened up the beloved Rössli.

The three “Rösslidoctors”, whom the library on Facebook thanks for their work, are Ueli Haueter, Ernst “Aschi” Aeberhard and Rolf Bühler. It was the latter who took the initiative to patch it. “The Rössli is around 27 years old and belongs to Heidi Fahrni,” says Bühler. She owned the “Boutique Fahrni” clothing store, which closed five years ago. A year later the library moved there (BERN-OST reported). The Rössli stayed. “It was a hit with all small children,” says Bühler. At some point it stopped and Heidi Fahrni no longer received any service due to a lack of spare parts.

“There is nothing that cannot be mended”

“My grandchildren always wanted to go to the Rössli when we were in the village,” says Bühler. But it no longer rode. “Duesch chli gwaggle on the tail?” One of the children asked him. “At some point I thought there was nothing that you couldn’t mend,” says Bühler, who spends his free time at the Flickstübli in Gäziwil and describes himself as a “bugger”. So he took the Rössli home, took it apart and mended it. “It had a couple of electrical bugs,” he says. But they were quickly resolved.

In addition, Bühler brought the saddle and bridle back into shape. Aeberhard, who runs an interior decoration business on Hauptstrasse, donated the leather to him. “He also sewed the artificial leather gauntlets on the Rössli’s fastening rods so that the children couldn’t reach into the box underneath and injure themselves,” says Bühler. Haueter helped him transport the Rössli.

He has the most joy himself

So now the Rössli is back in operation and Bühler has already received a lot of enthusiastic reactions. “The kids really have a chat,” he says. Because of his grandchildren, he is often in the playground. “Everyone says: ‘Ah, it’s nice that the Rössli is going again!'” And what about himself? “I have more fun than all children with each other!”
