Groglass resumes production at full capacity and hires previously fired employees / Article / LSM.lv

The manufacturer of high-tech glass coatings “Groglass” has resumed production at full capacity and hires previously laid off employees after the decision to suspend production due to the coronavirus crisis at the end of May.

From October, the company will also resume full pay for employees who had agreed to a temporary 10% pay cut due to the crisis.

“We are seeing a return to demand in our target markets in Europe and around the world. Covid-19 is affecting people to spend more time at home and want to improve their living environment, which creates a demand for our glass for picture framing. Activity in museums and professional workshops is also returning,” Groglass said. “Founder and Chairman of the Board Aleksandrs Sasha Kelbergs.

According to him, at the beginning of the crisis – in the spring – the company continued production, built up stocks and adapted to the situation.

“It gave us the flexibility to give our employees time off in the summer and return to work in mid-August.

“Groglass will see a drop in revenue this year, given that our customers did not work during quarantine, but it will not be as dramatic as we expected in April or May,” Kelberg added.

During the summer, Groglass has continued to fulfill orders from existing production stocks, as well as focused on new product development and work process optimization.

CONTEXT:

The Covid-19 virus crisis has affected glass coating manufacturer Groglass in the spring decided to suspend production and temporarily laid off about 92 workers involved in the production process. The other 50 employees of the company have agreed to reduce their salaries by 10%, the company informed.

The company explained at the time that more than 50% of Groglass’ production was used by specialized framing workshops in more than 45 countries. Due to restrictions on the spread of the virus, these workshops were closed in most cases and demand for Groglass glass decreased accordingly. The company’s management at the time planned that production could resume in the autumn.

Groglass is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of anti-glare and ultraviolet shielding glass for framing and cold storage. Groglass products are used to preserve works of art in the world’s leading museums, including the Louvre Museum in Paris and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, among many others. In 2018, Groglass had a turnover of 16.4 million euros and a profit of 2.5 million euros.
