Jesse Williams left “Grey’s Anatomy” after 12 years of dedicated service. But is a spinoff series about Jackson and April in Boston possible? The actor responded to TVLine.
After twelve seasons spent as Doctor Jackson Avery, Jesse Williams said goodbye to Grey’s Anatomy last Thursday on ABC in the United States at the end of an emotional episode during which his character left Seattle for Boston, where he is about to take the helm of the Harper Avery Foundation.
Asked by TVLine Following this pivotal episode of season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy, Jesse Williams explained that this departure was the result of a “collective” discussion with showrunneuse Krista Vernoff and the authors of the series.
“The starting point was not the decision, but rather what made the most sense for the character”, confides the interpreter of Jackson. “We were trying to figure out what to do next for him and something kept telling us all the time that he couldn’t stay here. He’s been through a lot but he’s never really been able to have a stable relationship since April. ..) So the authors decided to send him to try to fill a gap and find some wholeness, and through this process he learned about the world around him and in which he lives “.
“He ended up saying to himself, ‘My god, I don’t know anything about what’s going on in the world! I’ve been in an ivory tower the whole time, living in a bubble. I have to get out of this to see what it feels like. “Jackson has always been very pro, but what about what really excites him? The decision to take over the reins of his mother’s foundation seemed like us. be the logical progression for him. And what feels right for the character is what matters most to me. “.

But does this departure for Boston really mean that we will never see Jackson again on the screen? Or is a spin-off on Jackson and April (Sarah Drew) in the pipeline now that April, who recently broke up with Matthew, has agreed to move to Boston too so her ex won’t be separated of their daughter?

Derived series or not, Jesse Williams says in any case very happy with the end which has, for the moment, been offered to this inconic couple that is “Japril”. “They’re quite a couple.
