Taranto’s move towards an environmental sustainability perspective also passes through transport and mobility and does not focus only on the (very uncertain) destinies of the ex Ilva steelworks, now ArcelorMittal. The Municipality has in fact launched the call for the construction of two new lines of fast electric buses (Bus Rapid Transit). Closing on July 6th for receiving offers. “It’s a one-of-a-kind invitation to tender – declares the Mayor of Taranto Rinaldo Melucci -. A European tender worth 3,641,286.98 euros, capable of attracting important engineering companies in the road sector for eco-sustainable infrastructures ».

This is a tender, explains Mayor Rinaldo Melucci, for the awarding of engineering and architecture services relating to the “drafting of the technical-economic feasibility project and the final design of the infrastructures for the construction of the electrical load-bearing lines of the Bus Rapid network Transit (Brt) envisaged by the Pums », the latter of the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan. Two lines: Blu, Tamburi-Talsano, and Rossa, Paolo VI-Cimino, plus storage, workshop and accessory works.

“It is a one-of-a-kind invitation to tender – declares the mayor of Taranto -. A European tender for the amount of 3,641,286.98 euros, capable of attracting important engineering companies in the road sector for eco-sustainable infrastructures». “A project – Melucci points out – which we think will make school because we will not proceed to the usual design with excerpts or for single lots – often a prelude to works never finished -, but we will design the entire network”.

The funds of the relaunch decree and the agreement with CdP

The work was admitted for financing in the “Relaunch” decree law, now being examined by Parliament, with an intervention by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport of 130 million euros divided over several years. And after the ok to the financing, the Municipality has signed a memorandum of understanding with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The latter will provide the Municipality of Taranto with consultancy activities to support the technical-financial strengthening of the local public transport network with the construction of the two new fast lines. The network, explains the mayor of Taranto, “will alternate between one-way and two-way sections, in mainly reserved routes, in order to guarantee the crossing of the Borgo”, it is the center of Taranto, “to the suburbs in a few minutes ».

For the mayor, it’s a project going in the direction of «Rebirth of a community and its ecological transition, that of eco-sustainable mobility and its infrastructures».Ubaldo Occhinegro, Councilor for Public Works, states to Sole 24 Ore that if the call for tenders relates to the design of the entire Brt network, with the resources of the” Relaunch “dl, the Blue line and the vehicle depot will be built, while for the Red line, the Municipality will access a call from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, for which the call is set for October. About 60-65 million will be asked for this line. The construction of the network is estimated at four years starting from the assumption of legally binding obligations by the companies.
